"Subjective examination" is to understand the patient's history, to find out about the onset of disease, causes, process, past medical history, and importantly too is to understand the patient's lifestyle.

"Taking pulse" is a method by which a TCM practitioner finds the pulse of the patient's radial artery with their fingers to observe for any changes in the pulse pattern, distinguishing between the excess and deficiency of functions of internal organs, and between the excess and deficiency of qi and blood.
